Clarkson D Greg Moro is signing a 2-year deal with the Stockton Heat (AHL). Big Edmonton native appeared in 147 games over his 4-year career. Rare for players to get a second year on an AHL deal. Stockton is Calgary’s affiliate.

Report: Heat sign college blueliner Greg Moro

The Stockton Heat have reportedly added a blueliner. According to College Hockey News’ Mike McMahon, the Heat have signed Clarkson University graduating senior blueliner Greg Moro to a two year AHL contract.
Moro, 24, is originally from Edmonton. He played his junior hockey with the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos and the AJHL’s Lloydminster Bobcats before going to college with Clarkson from 2016-17 until this season. (Fun fact: Flames assistant general manager Craig Conroy is a Clarkson alum!)
In a conference not known for gaudy offense, Moro was a solid contributor – he put up 8 goals and 45 points over 147 NCAA games. He served as an alternate captain during his senior year.
What are the Flames excited about with Moro? Well, he’s a right shot defender who’s 6’4″ and 207 pounds. His size and handedness are things the Flames don’t have a ton of in their system. He’s primarily projected as a shutdown guy and was a finalist in 2018-19 for ECAC Top Defensive Defenseman. If nothing else, he’s a reliable defender who should give Stockton options for deployments.
