Samuel Honzek and Slovakia were eliminated in the quarterfinal round during a pretty intense, tight-checking and at times chaotic day of action on Tuesday at the IIHF World Junior Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.</p>

<h2><strong>Finland beat Slovakia 4-3 in overtime<br />
</strong></h2>
<p>In a back-and-forth game, featuring a bunch of lead changes, Finland broke a 2-2 tie late, then Slovakia tied the game in the final minute, then Finland won 24 seconds into overtime.</p>
<p>Slovakia&#8217;s goals were scored by Adam Sykora, Dalibor Dvorsky and Filip Meser. Finland&#8217;s goals were scored by Tommi Mannisto, Lenni Hameenaho, Aleksanteri Kaskimaki and Jere Lassila.</p>
<p>Honzek had zero points in this game, playing 17:56 with a shot on goal and an even rating – he was on for one goal for and one goal against. He finished his final World Juniors with three goals and four points over five games. His plus-3 led all Slovakian players in the tournament.</p>
<h2><strong>Czechia beat Canada 3-2<br />
</strong></h2>
<p>Czechia plays a tight-checking style of game, and Canada had issues with it. Czechia never trailed in this game, receiving goals from Jakub Stancl (two) and Tomas Cibulka en route to the win – Stancl scored in the final minute to capture the win. Matthew Wood and Jake Furlong scored for Canada.</p>
<h2><strong>United States beat Latvia 7-2<br />
</strong></h2>
<p>Everybody expected the United States to wallop Latvia, and on a day otherwise filled with dramatics and close games&#8230;the Americans held up their end of the bargain. Bolstered by goals from Drew Fortescue, Gabe Perreault (two), Danny Nelson, Rutger McGroarty, Will Smith and Oliver Moore, the United States led the entire way. Latvia got a pair of goals from Dans Locmelis in the loss.</p>
<h2><strong>Sweden beat Switzerland 3-2 in overtime<br />
</strong></h2>
<p>The hosts got a bit of a scare, but Sweden managed to pull out a dramatic win over the tight-checking Swiss. Sweden&#8217;s goals were scored by Otto Stenberg, Jonathan Lekkerimaki and Axel Sandin Pellikka. Switzerland&#8217;s goals were by Jan Hornecker and Nick Meile.</p>
<h2><strong>Looking ahead</strong></h2>
<p>The next games are on Thursday:</p>

<li>At 3 a.m. MT, Germany and Norway play in the single-game relegation playoff. The winner advances to next year&#8217;s tournament, the loser is replaced by Kazakhstan.</li>
<li>At 7 a.m. MT, Sweden plays Czechia in one semi-final. At 11:30 a.m. MT, the United States plays Finland in the other semi-final. Winners play each other on Friday in the gold medal game, losers play each other in the bronze medal game.</li>
