Gang, it’s been quite a few months since we’ve gone for a walk around the Scotia Place construction, providing a quick snapshot of how the construction process is going.
Here’s how things looked as of the first weekend in May.

From the corner of Stampede Trail and 14th Avenue, this is the view fans will see as they approach the main entrance from the Victoria Park LRT station after they walk past the BMO Centre. This is intended as the primary entrance, with the multi-story bar and the second floor patio with the LED ribbon in front of it.
The steel and framing is coming together well, and this side of the building is taking shape pretty quickly. There’s obviously a bunch of work to be done, but you don’t need to daydream too much to see how this will end up looking.
Moving on…

Northwest corner

This is the view from the corner of Stampede Trail and 12th Avenue, with the secondary entrance. Once the Green Line LRT is finished, this will be the view fans get as they’re approaching from the north.
From this angle, you can get a sense of how much of the main roof trusses have been installed – we’re eyeballing it at about 20% or so – and there’s the framework on the right for the roof canopy for the team store, and on the lower left the steel framework for the restaurant and the food hall.

Northeast corner

From the corner of 12th Avenue and 6th Street, you can see how the upper level steel is wrapping around the building – almost all the way around now! The promo images on this side aren’t quite as fun, and on the left side you can get a sense of what’s left to be done: primarily the parkade structure along 6th Street. The loading dock entrance has already been set, though.

Southeast corner

Finally, a look from the corner of 14th Avenue and 6th Street. The community rink will be on the left side – and underground – with a public plaza above it. The lower level steel is almost all the way around and the upper level steel is following behind. There’s a bit of a gap in the lower steel, which we’re theorizing is to help facilitate installation of the roof structures as they move from west to east.
And that will probably progress fairly quickly over the next little while.
Stay tuned for more Scotia Place construction update as things work their way towards completion and opening night!
