Seravalli: Flames a ‘soft buyer’ at trade deadline

What a difference a new coach can make! Over at TSN, Frank Seravalli has updated his trade board and assessed which teams are buyers and sellers.
A little while ago, the fate of the Calgary Flames was a bit unclear. But Seravalli has them categorized as a “soft” buyer.
Here’s what Seravalli wrote:
Calgary Flames: GM Brad Treliving has been seeking an impact right-shooting winger for months after trying Josh Leivo and Dominik Simon, but the prices are high, and the Flames have their work cut out for them in the standings.
The Flames are back in the thick of the playoff mix, catching up rapidly to Montreal and Edmonton lately. They’ve also seemingly cooled on Sam Bennett trade talk, as Bennett is no longer listed on Seravalli’s top 25 trade bait assets.
Per FlamesNation’s calculations, the Flames have the ability to add $1.533 million in cap hits at the trade deadline while remaining cap compliant. That doesn’t give them the ability to add a massive piece, but could allow them to do some depth tinkering. (That is, unless they move a more substantial piece out the door in such a move.)
The Flames were reportedly kicking tires on Anaheim’s Rickard Rakell prior to the coaching coach, but balked at the price.
The NHL’s trade deadline is April 12.
