It’s well past the halfway point of the season and it’s time for the Calgary Wranglers to peak at the right time. The team that used to be the league’s best has faced some adversity as of late due to call-ups and injuries. Notes and expectations
The AHL still runs through the 4 Nations Face-Off but between this and the AHL All-Star game, there haven’t been a lot of games this month. This week had a similar feeling to a bye week, although, the Wranglers still got some work in during practice. With the Flames off and the Wranglers carrying a few extra bodies, it caused some movement between the NHL, AHL, and ECHL squads.
On Tuesday, the team announced a few re-assignments to the Rapid City Rush. Connor Murphy, who has been with the team for over a month for injury coverage and then as an extra goaltender has been sent down. Joni Jurmo and Connor Mylymok were also a part of this transaction. Jurmo has only played in 10 games so far this season and just recently came back from injury. Mylymok has been a great depth player as of late, giving Calgary some options up front when they were running pretty thin with call-ups. He played in five games before his re-assignment.
On February 8th, the Flames also announced AHL reassignments for Dryden Hunt, Adam Klapka and Ilya Solovyov. They should get game action but may be called upon again when the Flames return to their regular scheduled programming later this month. This will strengthen their lines as they currently sit in a losing record against the Reign this year. They are 1-2 with their last meetings in January ending in a 5-4 win for Calgary on January 19th and a 6-1 loss in game two of their series on January 21st.
This next series starts on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. MT and then continues for a Family Day game on Monday at 2:30 p.m. MT. Note the start times have changed since the initial schedule was released. Tickets are still available if you’d like to catch the action live or you can watch the AHLtv streams on Flo Hockey for a fee. The Fan960 will also have the radio call and multiple FlamesNation contributors will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
