NHL Notebook: Sharks re-sign Collin Graf to three-year deal

The San Jose Sharks have been carrying the summer for news.
A few days ago, they signed Macklin Celebrini to a five-year deal with an annual average value of a little under $19 million. Will Smith, another restricted free agent, could be offered an extension according to Sharks’ general manager.
Well, the Sharks signed another contract on Friday afternoon, agreeing to a three-year deal with Collin Graf that will see him carry a cap hit of $4.25 million. Unlike Celebrini’s extension that’ll kick in following the 2026-27 season, Graf will carry that cap hit next season.
Graf, undrafted, signed out of Quinnipiac following the 2023-24 season after scoring 22 goals and 49 points in 34 games. He appeared in seven games with the Sharks in 2023-24, then 33 in 2024-25 where he scored five goals and 11 points.
The Lincoln, Massachusetts product broke out in 2025-26, setting a career-high of 21 goals and 46 points in 81 games for the Sharks, as they just about snuck into a playoff spot. It’s a good signing for a player coming off a productive season.
Tommy Novak signs extension
The Pittsburgh Penguins will employ forward Tommy Novak for an additional three years, as he and the team signed a contract worth $4.65 million annually on Friday.

Novak was drafted by the Nashville Predators all the way back in the third round of the 2015 draft, but didn’t make his National Hockey League debut until 2021-22. He scored just a goal and seven points in 27 games, but has managed to reach 15 goals in each of the past four seasons.
The St. Paul, Minnesota product was traded to the Penguins ahead of the 2025 trade deadline, and scored 16 goals and 42 points in 82 games. This was the third time in the past four seasons that he reached 42 or more points, falling four points shy of breaking his career-high set in 2023-24.
