It’s August, folks, and there are two long weekends – this one and Labour Day – before hockey’s well and truly back. In the meantime, it seems likely that the long weekends will be filled with road trips, chores in the backyard, or a little of both.
For your listening and viewing pleasure, we highly recommend a trio of deep-dive interviews the gang over at Barn Burner has conducted with three prominent former Flames players.
Robyn Regehr
In the history of the franchise, only three individuals have spent more time in a Flames jersey than Regehr: Jarome Iginla, Mark Giordano and Mikael Backlund. That’s it. Boomer and Rhett had a lengthy three-part chat with Regehr that covered a lot.
Matt Stajan
He may have arrived in town via the much-maligned Dion Phaneuf trade with Toronto, but Stajan became a fan favourite and one of the more important figures of the club’s rebuild. He joined Boomer and Rhett for a three-parter, as well, getting into his career and his transition into coaching after retirement.
Mike Vernon
Recorded before he was named as part of the Hockey Hall of Fame’s 2023 class, Vernon was the goaltender of record for basically all of the Flames’ strongest seasons. He joined Pinder and Rhett for a two-parter, discussing his decorated career.
