Over at Sportico, a site dedicated to the business of sports, <a href="https://www.sportico.com/feature/nhl-team-values-ranking-list-1234693065/">they&#8217;ve put together their National Hockey League franchise valuations</a>. Sportico has estimated the Calgary Flames&#8217; franchise at $1.14 billion, 17th among the NHL&#8217;s 32 franchises.

The Flames were valued by Sportico at $870 million in 2022, so this valuation represents a 31% increase. The average NHL club was worth $1.01 billion according to Sportico in 2022, and this year it&#8217;s $1.31 billion – a 30% increase.
Sportico&#8217;s methodology for franchise values is essentially making their best bet based on reported and estimated revenues, recent franchise sales, and by consulting lawyers and bankers who worked on NHL transactions. The most prominent recent sale was Michael Andlauer&#8217;s purchase of the Ottawa Senators for $950 million, but we&#8217;ve also seen smaller chunks of teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild and Tampa Bay Lightning sold recently (and the amounts that those chunks sold for obviously impact both valuations for those teams, but for franchises across the league).
Here&#8217;s how the other six Canadian clubs stack up on Sportico&#8217;s list:

It&#8217;s worth noting that since the valuations are based on reported and estimated franchise revenues, the recent deal to build a new Flames arena in Victoria Park isn&#8217;t reflected in this increased valuation. It likely won&#8217;t open until 2027-28, in which case the revenue increase wouldn&#8217;t begin to impact the club&#8217;s valuation until that time.
