Sportsnet adds Brendan Parker as part of Flames regional broadcast announcement

Friends, for years, Brendan Parker has been a steady part of your Calgary Flames media diet, through his roles first at Global Calgary and later as a host on FlamesTV. Well, Parker will continue to be a big part of your Flames coverage, as it was announced on Wednesday – as many had speculated – that he’ll be joining the Sportsnet broadcast team, replacing the departing Ryan Leslie.
That announcement was part of Sportsnet’s annual slew of announcements regarding their regional coverage of the various Canadian National Hockey League teams on Wednesday morning. Parker will be joined on Flames television broadcasts by play-by-play voice Jon Abbott, entering his second year on the job, and long-time colour commentator Kelly Hrudey. (In past years Hrudey has also been a part of Sportsnet’s national coverage as part of their panel, so until we’re told otherwise we’re going to presume we may see some other colour commentators join Abbott from time to time.)
58 Flames games will be carried on the regional Sportsnet broadcasts, with the first coming on Thu., Oct. 8 when the Flames visit the Vancouver Canucks in the second game of the regular season. 22 Flames games will be carried on the national Sportsnet coverage, starting with the season-opener on Wed., Oct. 7 when the Flames visit the Edmonton Oilers. An additional two games will be part of Amazon Prime’s Monday Night Hockey coverage, with the first coming on Mon., Mar. 16 when the Flames visit the Detroit Red Wings. It’s the second season for Amazon’s productions, and we’re excited to see if the quality continues as they tinker with things based on the feedback from their inaugural year.
The Flames radio broadcasts will be as they have been for all 82 games: Pat Steinberg hosting, with play-by-play from Derek Wills and colour commentary from Meaghan Mikkelson.
The Flames open the on-ice portion of 2025-26’s training camp on Thursday. Their exhibition schedule begins on Sunday with a split squad set with Edmonton. They begin the regular season on Oct. 7 in Edmonton.
