Stockton Narrows Name Candidates Down To Five

The latest incarnation of the Calgary Flames top minor league affiliate is one step closer to having a name. The website of the ECHL’s Stockton Thunder announced on Tuesday the five finalists for the new American Hockey League franchise that begins play in Stockton in the fall.
The five finalists are:
- Stockton Blaze
- Stockton Fire
- Stockton Heat
- Stockton Inferno
- Stockton Scorch
The Flames will announce the new name “shortly,” according to the site. The Heat was previously used in Abbotsford and the Inferno were an ECHL team in Columbia, South Carolina. I think everyone would enjoy the team being called the Stockton Scorch, if only so that the dearly departed original Adirondack Flames mascot can return from wherever they sent him.
