It’s a bit of a sleepier day around the world of the Calgary Flames following the Game 1 victory, so let’s take a deep breath and talk about something that’s probably beginning to excite everybody – the future.

Jon Gillies signed his entry-level deal yesterday, and so I thought it was prudent to take a gander at the Flames’ contract situation for next season as it stands right now.

Because they’re rare like unicorns, right-handers are noted with (R).

FORWARDS (14)

Jiri Hudler
David Jones (R)
Sam Bennett
Mason Raymond
Matt Stajan
Johnny Gaudreau
Sean Monahan
Joe Colborne
Brandon Bollig
Morgan Klimchuk
Emile Poirier
Markus Granlund
Austin Carroll
Garnet Hathaway (R)

RFAs this summer: Mikael Backlund, Bryce van Brabant, Drew Shore (R), Josh Jooris (R), Bill Arnold (R), Kenny Agostino, David Wolf (R), Max Reinhart, Ben Hanowski, Michael Ferland, Lance Bouma, Paul Byron and Turner Elson.

Also, as of July 1, the Flames can get to work on contract extensions for Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan, whose deals expire on July 1, 2016.

DEFENSEMEN (12)

Dennis Wideman (R)
T.J. Brodie
Mark Giordano
Ladislav Smid
Deryk Engelland (R)
Kris Russell
Keegan Kanzig
Tyler Wotherspoon
Patrick Sieloff
Brett Kulak
Ryan Culkin
Kenney Morrison (R)

RFAs this summer: John Ramage (R), Sena Acolatse (R) and Mark Cundari. Chris Billins is technically still an RFA, and I believe the Flames retain his North American rights for two more years.

Also, as of July 1, the Flames can get to work on a contract extension for Mark Giordano, whose deal expires on July 1,
2016.
