The Calgary Flames completed a big piece of business last week with their hiring of Craig Conroy as general manager. Next up? A new head coach. On Tuesday&#8217;s edition of Insider Trading, TSN&#8217;s Darren Dreger noted that the Flames&#8217; pursuit of a new bench boss is moving into &#8220;full gear&#8221; this week.

I look at Travis Green, if he’s not scooped up by another team that’s in the market for a head coach he’ll be a top candidate. The internal guys include Kirk Muller, Mitch Love, Ryan Huska – all strong candidates. And here’s one from kinda left field, the Ontario Hockey League and Windsor Spitfires’ Marc Savard, who’s believed to be getting some consideration as well.&#8221;</blockquote>

Dreger&#8217;s comments more or less align with what we heard from Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman on Monday&#8217;s edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast. Friedman noted that he thinks the Flames have &#8220;a long list,&#8221; with the emphasis on the word long. Among the names that Friedman put out there regarding the Flames&#8217; gig were Peter Laviolette (who he theorized declined interest), Andrew Brunette (before he was hired by Nashville) and Alex Tanguay. And for clarity&#8217;s sake, Marek was the first prominent media type to theorize Savard being in the mix for the Calgary job.
