The Calgary Flames will draft 16th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft

The 2023 National Hockey League draft lottery has come and gone, and the Calgary Flames did not win either drawing. They had a minuscule 0.5% chance of doing so. As such, the Flames will be allotted the 16th overall selection in the first round of the 2023 NHL Draft (and the 16th pick in every subsequent round).
The Flames have selected at 16th overall three previous times in franchise history, taking Vic Mercredi in 1973, the late George Pelawa in 1986, and Juuso Valimaki in 2017.
Here are the selections the Flames presently control:
- 1st round, 16th overall
- 2nd round, 48th overall
- 4th round, 112th overall
- 6th round, 176th overall
- 7th round, 208th overall
Calgary’s third-round selection was traded to Seattle in the Calle Jarnkrok trade, and then Seattle traded that pick to Columbus in the Oliver Bjorkstrand trade.
Calgary’s fifth-round selection was traded to Montreal in the Tyler Toffoli trade.
The 2023 NHL Draft takes place June 28 & 29 in Nashville.
