The Calgary Wranglers announced their 2023-24 regular season schedule on Wednesday, with the club playing 72 games – 36 home and 36 away – with a schedule overwhelming skewed towards play within their own division.
The Wranglers begin their season with a pair of weekends away from home – pairs of games against the Manitoba Moose (Oct. 13 & 15) and Abbotsford Canucks (Oct. 20 & 21) before opening their home schedule on Oct. 28 against the Colorado Eagles.
The schedule is punctuated by a schedule really stacked with divisional opponents.
For comparison’s sake, here’s the rundown by opponent for the 2023-24 season, the 2022-23 season and the final season in Stockton, 2021-22.

The schedule features a good balance between the various divisional foes, but the geographical rivalries between the Wranglers and Abbotsford (Vancouver’s AHL team) and Manitoba (Winnipeg’s AHL team) are boosted up a bit, seemingly at the sake of more games with Henderson, San Diego and Tucson. The AHL is both a business and a developmental league, so the likely idea is minimizing travel to keep costs down and allowing more practice time for each team’s players.
If you’re looking for some potential rivalry games to take in at the ‘Dome, here are a few:
  • Bakersfield (Edmonton’s AHL team) visits on Nov. 14, Nov. 15, Mar. 19 and Mar. 20.
  • Abbotsford, who the Wranglers beat in the playoffs, visits on Nov. 25, Nov. 26, Dec. 28, Dec. 29, Apr. 11 and Apr. 12.
  • Coachella Valley (Seattle’s AHL team), who beat the Wranglers in the playoffs, visits on Jan. 1, Jan. 2, Mar. 26 and Mar. 27.
The Wranglers play 21 home games on the weekend, with a decent mix of matinees and evening games. If you’re a parent and were a fan of the afternoon games: they’re back. If you liked the Friday afternoon games because it gave you an excuse to sneak out of work at lunch: they’re back, too.
