The Calgary Flames announced their rookie camp roster on Monday. The opening of camp later this week kicks off a pretty busy next few weeks – and heck, next few months.
Here’s a rundown of the things on the books for the rest of September.
Sept. 13 (Wednesday): The Flames’ prospects report for medicals and fitness testing for rookie camp.
Sept. 15 (Friday): The Flames begin their Young Stars Classic with a game against Vancouver’s prospects in Penticton. The game begins at 8:30 p.m. MT and it’ll be broadcast on the Flames site and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
Sept. 16 (Saturday): Saturday night (prospect) hockey! The Flames’ prospects face Edmonton’s prospects in Penticton. As with Friday’s game, it’s an 8:30 p.m. MT start (and on the Flames site and Sportsnet 960 The Fan).
Sept. 18 (Monday): After a Sunday of practice, it’s a matinee game to close out the Penticton tournament! Monday’s game against Winnipeg starts at 11 a.m. MT (and, again, it’s on Flames site and Sportsnet 960 The Fan).
Sept. 20 (Wednesday): The veterans report for main camp – basically everybody under contract who didn’t already report for rookie camp. On-ice sessions likely begin the following Thursday.
Sept. 24 (Sunday): The exhibition calendar begins! The Flames kick things off with a Sunday home date with Vancouver (6 p.m. MT). This game is scheduled to be broadcast on Sportsnet TV, one of two pre-season dates slated to be on TV. (Both against Vancouver.)
Sept. 25 (Monday): It’s split squad day! The Flames play two pre-season games in two different cities, both against the Seattle Kraken. They play them in Calgary at 7 p.m. MT and in Seattle at 8 p.m. MT.
Sept. 27 (Wednesday): The Flames head to Winnipeg to battle the Jets in exhibition action. It’s a 6 p.m. MT start.
Sept. 28 (Thursday): The regular season waiver period begins (12 days before the start of the season), so any player who requires waivers needs to clear them before being assigned to the minors after this date.
Sept. 29 (Friday): It’s time for a pre-season Battle of Alberta, as the Flames host Edmonton. It’s a 7 p.m. MT start.
