The Calgary Flames will return to scenic Penticton, British Columbia in September for the 2023 edition of the Young Stars Classic tournament. It’s the 10th edition of the event, and the schedule and ticket info have been announced by the host Vancouver Canucks.
Here’s how it shakes down (all times PT):
- Friday, Sept. 15: Winnipeg vs. Edmonton (4 p.m.)
- Friday, Sept. 15: Flames vs. Vancouver (7:30 p.m.)
- Saturday, Sept. 16: Penticton Vees vs. Chilliwack Chiefs in BCHL pre-season (2 p.m.)
- Saturday, Sept. 16: Flames vs. Edmonton (7:30 p.m.)
- Sunday, Sept. 17: Vancouver vs. Winnipeg (2 p.m.)
- Monday, Sept. 18: Flames vs. Winnipeg (11 a.m.)
- Monday, Sept. 18: Vancouver vs. Edmonton (2:30 p.m.)
(The Flames have not announced broadcast information yet, but in previous years they’ve streamed the Flames games on YouTube.)
From the Canucks:
Full tournament packages will go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 23 at 10:00am PT and can be purchased at the Valley First Box Office at the SOEC or online at ValleyFirstTix.com. Each full tournament package includes tickets to all six NHL games and the Penticton Vees game, beginning at $115.00 for adults and $75.00 for children ages 12 and under.
The Young Stars Classic is the precursor to main training camp and provides the top prospects for the western Canadian teams that aren’t headed to college or Europe a chance to play competitive games before main camp begins. Traditionally the Flames have sent unsigned North American prospects, plus players entering the first season or two of their entry level deals to the tournament. As such, you can reasonably expect to see the likes of Matt Coronato, William Stromgren, Connor Zary, Rory Kerins, Adam Klapka, Lucas Ciona, Yan Kuznetsov and Jeremie Poirier competing at the event.
The Young Stars Classic goes Sept. 15-18 in Penticton, BC.
