Welcome back to this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday!

On this day in 2011, the Calgary Flames and Mikka Kiprusoff shutout the St. Louis Blues 1-0 on home ice.

The win came in thanks to a 27-save performance from Kiprusoff, and a third period tally from @David Moss.

“Style points don’t count in the National Hockey League but Moss definitley added some flair to a playoff-style game Sunday punctuated by heavy hits and attention to defensive detail,” penned Calgary Herald writer Vicki Hall. “Forcing a rare error in the St. Louis zone, @Alex Tanguay poked the puck away from defenceman @Tyson Strachan and dished to Moss in the high slot.

“Moss uncorked a shot, vaulted over a sliding @Carlo Coliacovo, landed on his belly and watched the puck elude Ben Bishop.”

It was Moss’ 15th goal of the season and a year that would only see him score two more before seasons end.

“I think both teams were playing cautious,” Moss said after the game. “At this time of year, you never want to make a mistake. When you play like that, you maybe tend to make a few more than you want.”

For Kipper, it was one of six shutouts that he posted in the 2010-11 season — the third-highest tally of his career. It started to mark the beginning of the end for him, as Kiprusoff would be out of the league only two years later.

Calgary finished the year second in the NHL’s Northwest Division with 94 points, but missed out on the playoffs.
