Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday!
Today in 1993, Calgary Flames forward Joel Otto played in his 600th career NHL game — an 8-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.
Never drafted, Otto was signed by the Flames organization to play for their AHL affiliate, the Moncton Golden Flames, in the 1984-85 season and was called up for 17 games with the big club, where he scored four goals and 12 points.
Otto made his name for himself as a solid two-way center who put up solid points every year. That 1992-93 season saw him score 19 goals and 52 points — none of which came during that 8-1 win. Otto played in Calgary until 1994-95, when the club and player were unable to negotiate a new deal.
He signed a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers and retired at the end of the deal in 1998. By the time he retired, Otto played 943 games scoring 195 goals and 508 points.
His lone Stanley Cup championship came with the Flames in 1989.
