Calgary Flames defenseman Travis Hamonic was conspicuous by his absence at Thursday afternoon’s practice.
The blueliner was involved in an early first period fight with Vancouver Canucks defenseman Erik Gudbranson on Wednesday night following Gudbranson’s big hit on Flames rookie Dillon Dube – the hit earned the Canucks player an interference penalty.
The fight ended with a big punch from Gudbranson that resulted in Hamonic leaving the Flames bench area, receiving some manner of medical attention, and returning at the tailend of the first period wearing a face shield. He played a regular shift for the remainder of the game.
The Flames host the Canucks on Saturday night.
