FN’s 2026 Flames summer prospect rankings – HM: Trevor Hoskin

The Calgary Flames have drafted some enticing prospects in the latter rounds of the draft since Craig Conroy took over as the general manager.

None are better than Ethan Wyttenbach, but one player who has put up consistently strong point totals in his two seasons in the NCAA is Trevor Hoskin. The Belleville, Ontario product earned three votes, with the forward coming in as my 19th-best Flames’ prospect.

That wasn’t enough to rank him, instead earning an honourable mention, as he did in our 2025 rankings.

Hoskin was born in Belleville, Ontario, a city a couple of hours east of Toronto down Highway 401. He played three seasons for the Cobourg Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, scoring 42 goals and 100 points in 52 games, with another 11 goals and 28 points in 18 post-season games.

That led to the Flames selecting the forward with the 106th overall pick in the 2024 draft. Committed to Niagara University, Hoskin scored 12 goals and 39 points, tied for the team-leading in the latter category.

Not only did he share a team-lead in points, but his 39 points were tied for fourth in all of the Atlantic Hockey America division. That earned him the conference’s Rookie of the Year, as well as an appearance on the All-Atlantic Hockey America second team.

It was undeniably a good season for Hoskin, but it got even better once he transferred to Merrimack College for the 2025-26 season.

Joining the Hockey East school, Hoskin finished with 13 goals and 35 points in 34 games, with seven goals and 20 points coming in the 20 games he played in the conference. Out of conference, his 35 points ranked tied for sixth, while his 20 in-conference points ranked ninth, and his 1 point-per-game pace ranking tied for fourth. But it gets better.

While Hoskin didn’t win any honours like the year prior, he was an instrumental part of helping Merrimack win their first ever Hockey East title, automatically sending them to their first NCAA National Tournament since 2023, just the fourth time since joining the Hockey East conference back in the late 1980s.

Hoskin had a good Hockey East tournament, which included scoring the overtime winner against Providence in the quarterfinals. They eventually fell to Cole Reschny, Abram Wiebe, and Cade Littler’s North Dakota in the regional semifinals of the national tournament.

Still, it was a great year for the 22-year-old.

Expectations for the 2026-27

Hoskin is set to return to Merrimack for the 2026-27 season, his junior season. After having either leading or finishing second on the team in points, he needs to have that type of season once again. Even more so as he’s projected to be one of the older players on Merrimack’s roster.

A speedy playmaker, he needs to build upon his 2025-26, but also follow up Merrimack’s success they had last season. While winning the Hockey East tournament is easier said than done, considering Boston College and Boston University are also in the conference, putting themselves in a spot to earn a bye is a must.

There’s a good chance that this will be Hoskin’s final NCAA season, as senior collegiate players earn unrestricted free agent rights. He needs to make it a good one to force the Flames’ hands to sign him to an entry-level contract.
