In the world of college hockey regular seasons are winding down and conferences are beginning to have their playoff tournaments – part of a process that feeds into the NCAA’s national tournament later in March and April. Along with these tournaments are conferences announcing various awards and all-star teams.
Earlier this week, three different Calgary Flames prospects were named to All-Rookie Teams across a pair of college conferences.
In the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), North Dakota’s Cole Reschny and Denver’s Eric Jamieson made their All-Rookie Team. In the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), Quinnipiac’s Ethan Wyttenbach was named to the All-Rookie Team.
The 18-year-old Reschny is a left shot centre originally from Saskatchewan. He played his junior hockey with the Western Hockey League’s Victoria Royals and was a first-round pick, 18th overall, in the 2025 NHL Draft. He joined North Dakota as a freshman this season and has been, well, really good. He’s played in every game situation, serving as second line centre and getting minutes on both the power play and penalty kill. He’s developed quietly into a really effective 200-foot centre and strong face-off man – again, at 18 against older players – and has produced offensively, too. In 32 NCAA games, he has five goals and 33 points. (He’s fifth nationally in points by a freshman.) He also represented Canada at the World Juniors, winning bronze.
The 20-year-old Jamieson is a left shot defender originally from Calgary. He played his junior hockey with the WHL’s Everett Silvertips and was a sixth-round pick, 177th overall, in the 2024 NHL Draft. (He was selected in his second year of draft eligibility.) He joined Denver as a freshman this year and has adapted really nicely. He’s played consistently on their top two pairings and managed to chip in on both sides of the puck. In 37 NCAA games, he has seven goals and 16 points.
The 19-year-old Wyttenbach is a right shot winger originally from New York state. He played his junior hockey with the United States Hockey League’s Sioux Falls Stampede, where he won the USHL’s Gaudreau Award. He was drafted by the Flames in the fifth-round, 144th overall, in the 2025 NHL Draft. He joined Quinnipiac this year and has been, well, great offensively. He is presently not only the freshman leading scorer in all of college hockey, but he’s the leading scorer nationally outright regardless of class. In 36 NCAA games, he has 24 goals and 57 points.
Conferences continue to announce all-star teams and awards, so we suspect we’ll hear more from Flames prospects in the NCAA in the coming days and weeks.
