The Calgary Flames have another restricted free agent to cross off on their off-season to-do list. Per our colleagues at PuckPedia, Flames goaltending prospect Tyler Parsons has accepted his qualifying offer and will have a one year, two-way deal for the upcoming season worth $771,750 at the NHL level.
Parsons, 23, was a second round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft but has struggled to put together a full hockey season since then due to injury and other challenges. He was limited to just one AHL game for Stockton last season due to an ankle injury, and he’s played just 26 pro games over the past two seasons.
Parsons was a really well-regarded prospect in his draft year, winning a Memorial Cup and following that up with a superb gold medal-winning performance at the World Juniors the following season. But he has yet to translate the promise he had as a teenager into success at the pro level.
Parsons will likely be one of three goalies vying for the net in Stockton, along with recent free agent signing Adam Werner and fellow American prospect Dustin Wolf. It’ll be interesting to see how time in the Heat net is divided up in 2022-23.
