The Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks are starting to fall out of the playoff race.
Before Thursday’s slate of games start, there are five Pacific Division teams who occupy a playoff spot, while another team is just one point out of a wild card spot. However, both the Flames and Canucks are quickly falling out of the playoff race and will need to get hot to get back into it.
This is What’s Going On In the Pacific Division, the weekly article where we look at how teams from the division fared, as well as setting up the following week. Let’s take a look at the week that was.

Anaheim Ducks

In last week’s edition of What’s Going On In the Pacific Division, we looked at how the Ducks were in third place in the division. Just a week later, they are on the outside looking in as they lost their first three games of 2026, extending their losing streak to seven. They faced off against the Minnesota Wild (5-2 loss), Washington Capitals (7-4 loss), and Philadelphia Flyers (5-2 loss).
This coming week, they play two more road games, before returning home. On Thursday, they face the Carolina Hurricanes, then the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, before hosting the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.

Calgary Flames

After a 9-4-0 December, the Calgary Flames have started 2026 going 0-3. On Saturday, they fell 4-3 to the Nashville Predators, then lost a crucial game to the Seattle Kraken by a score of 5-1. On Wednesday, they fell 4-1 to the Montréal Canadiens to give them just 40 points in 43 games, six points back of the final wild card.
That game against the Canadiens began a five-game road trip, where they will take on four Eastern Conference teams. On Thursday, they play the Boston Bruins, then the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday and the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.

Edmonton Oilers

It was a rather uneventful week for the Oilers, as they played just two games. On Saturday, they fell 5-2 to the Philadelphia Flyers in an embarrassing performance, but dominated the Nashville Predators en route to a 6-2 victory. With 48 points, they sit tied for the Pacific Division lead in points, albeit the Vegas Golden Knights have played fewer games.
This week, the Oilers will head east to face the Winnipeg Jets in Manitoba on Thursday. They then return home for a game, playing the Los Angeles Kings for the first time this season, before a road back-to-back against the Chicago Blackhawks and Predators on Monday and Tuesday respectively.

Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings have had an alright start to 2026, falling 5-3 to the Tampa Bay Lightning, beating the Minnesota Wild 5-4 in a shootout, then 4-2 in regulation, before falling 4-3 to the San Jose Sharks in overtime. As it stands, the Kings have 46 points and occupy the final wild card spot.
This week, they’ll have a back-to-back on the road against the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers on Friday and Saturday. On Monday, the Kings return home to host the Dallas Stars, then the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday. It’s a rather tough schedule, minus the Jets.

San Jose Sharks

If you had the San Jose Sharks occupying a playoff spot midway through this season, you mind giving me six numbers from 1-49? They lost their first game of 2026 to the Tampa Bay Lightning, a 7-3 score, but rebounded with 5-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets and a 4-3 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings.
It’s a quiet week for the Sharks, as they play a back-to-back over the weekend before a three-day break. Saturday will see the Sharks welcome the Dallas Stars, before hosting the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday.

Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken haven’t lost a game in regulation in three weeks. After losing 4-2 to the Calgary Flames on Dec. 18, they won their next four games, then fell in a shootout to end 2025. In 2026, they’ve won all four games they’ve played, defeating the Nashville Predators 4-1, the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in a shootout, the Calgary Flames 5-1, and the Boston Bruins 7-4. With a 20-14-7 record, they sit third in the Pacific Division with a better point percentage than the Edmonton Oilers.
It’s another busy week for the Kraken. They’ll host the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, before beginning a five-game road trip where they’ll play four Eastern Conference teams. On Saturday, they’ll play the Carolina Hurricanes, then the New York Rangers on Monday, and the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.

Vancouver Canucks

Since their four-game winning streak following the Quinn Hughes trade, the Vancouver Canucks have lost six of their last seven games, albeit to have been in a shootout or overtime. On Friday, they fell 4-3 to the Seattle Kraken in a shootout, then 3-2 to the Boston Bruins in overtime, before dropping a road game to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday by a score of 5-3. Their 37 points this season is the second-fewest in the league.
The game against the Sabres marked the beginning of a six-game road trip, with four games to be played this week. They’ll face the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, the Montréal Canadiens on Monday, and the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

Vegas Golden Knights

The Pacific Division Vegas Golden Knights have played three games since the start of the new year, going 1-1-1. They fell 4-3 to the St. Louis Blues, lost 3-2 in overtime to the Chicago Blackhawks, before extending the Winnipeg Jets’ losing streak to 10 games thanks to a 4-3 overtime victory in comeback fashion. The Knights are tied with the Edmonton Oilers for the division lead with 48 points, but the Knights have a superior points percentage (.585 to the Oilers’ .558).
This week, the Knights play two home games and two road games. On Thursday, they host the Columbus Blue Jackets, then the Blues on Saturday. They’ll then hit the road, facing the San Jose Sharks on Sunday and the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.
