There are just two more rounds left in the 2024 post-season.

On Monday, the conclusion of the second round ended, with a Canadian team moving on to the Western Conference Finals. On top of that, two other series have ended since the last What’s Going On In The Playoffs.
Let’s take a look at What’s Going On In The Playoffs!
<h2>Edmonton defeated Vancouver in seven games</h2>
In the last What’s Going On In the Playoffs (WGOITP), the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks were deadlocked at two games apiece.
It looked like the Canucks would push the Oilers to the precipice of their second straight second-round exit, as the Canucks scored with just 33 seconds remaining in the third period of a tied game to go up 3-2 in the series. As one would expect, the Oilers showed a lot of fight in Game 6, defeating Vancouver 5-1 to send the series back to Vancouver for a decisive Game 7. This was the only game in the series where a team didn’t win by one goal.

In Game 7, the Oilers scored three goals in the second period, one from Cody Ceci (the second Game 7 he’s scored in), before Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins both found the back of the net. The Canucks didn’t go quietly though, as they scored two goals in the second half of the third, but their miraculous comeback fell short, falling 3-2 to the Oilers and 4-3 in the series.

With that being said, the Calgary Flames will now have some clarity as to where they’ll pick in the 2024 draft, as they are locked in the 28th overall spot thanks to the Elias Lindholm trade. Who could they pick with that first rounder? Well, that’s a different article!
<h2>Dallas heads to their second consecutive Western Conference Finals</h2>
In the last WGOITP, the Colorado Avalanche finally took a lead in a game during Game 5, sending the game back to Denver for Game 6.
That Game 6 ended in heartbreak for the Avalanche, as the Dallas Stars scored in double overtime, ending the Avalanche’s hope for a second Stanley Cup in three seasons. The goal scorer? Well it was none other than former Avalanche centre, Matt Duchene, who has been a big part of Dallas’ season.

If you needed any more reason to cheer against the Edmonton Oilers (let’s be real, you don’t), if the Stars defeat the Oilers and head to the Stanley Cup Finals, the Calgary Flames will receive the Stars’ 2026 third-round pick.

<h2>Boston allows a late goal, falling to Florida </h2>
After three high scoring games in the first three games, the Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins tightened up defensively, with a 3-2 game in Game 4, a 2-1 game in Game 5, and a 2-1 game in Game 6, the latter is the game we’ll be looking at in this section.
In the last article, we saw how the Bruins won 2-1 in Sunrise, Florida, to force the series back to Boston for Game 6. The Bruins once again scored the first goal, as Pavel Zacha scored his first goal of the postseason early in the first period. However, the Panthers tied it midway through the second period.
It looked like the game was going to go to overtime, but Gustav Forsling scored with just a minute and 33 seconds left in the game, eliminating the Bruins from the postseason.

<h2>Carolina’s reverse sweep bid comes short </h2>
Like the Dallas Stars and the Florida Panthers series, there was only one game played since the last WGOITP, with it being the decisive game.
In National Hockey League history, there have been just three successful “reverse sweeps”, where a team comes back from 3-0 down in the series to win it. Expanding the scope to Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association, there have only been five reverse sweeps in North America.
It looked as if the Carolina Hurricanes were making a run at being the fifth NHL team to reverse sweep, and the tenth team in NHL history to come back down 3-0 to force a Game 7. Heading into the third period, the Hurricanes had a 3-1 lead and were 20 minutes away from Game 7, but the New York Rangers scored four unanswered goals in the third period, including a Chris Kreider natural hat trick, sending the team from the Big Apple to the Eastern Conference Finals.
