The Calgary Wranglers fell to the Coachella Valley Firebirds last night and switch to a familiar opponent for their Sunday evening game. They face the Ontario Reign for the third time in the last eight days. They just play the one game this time around and had two close games in Calgary that both ended up in overtime losses for the Wranglers. Calgary is on a current six game losing streak, which is their longest skid of the season.

Notes and expectations
One of the elephants in the room during this losing streak is, unfortunately, Devin Cooley. Cooley has not come back from injury at the same calibre he was in the first half of the season. The league’s former top goalie has had five games in the last month over a 3.91 GAA and has only won one game in that time. He shows signs of his former self but something does not seem to be clicking the same as it did earlier in the season.
This game may be interesting when it comes to goaltending choices as yes, Cooley was in net for the overtime losses last week but did give his team a chance to get the extra point. With this game coming on the back end of a back to back, it might be time to give Waltteri Ignatjew the start. Ignatjew last played in Calgary’s game against the San Diego Gulls on Jan. 25 and picked up the win despite giving up five goals.
On the plus side, Martin Frk is getting hot at the right time in the season. Frk has 13 points in his last nine games and has not gone more than one game without making it to the scoresheet since Jan. 10. He was the only goal scorer in last night’s game against the Firebirds and is using his deadly shot on the top line to make a difference. Hopefully, his efforts start to motivate some of the other depth scorers Calgary could be seeing a little more out of.
This game to wrap up the week gets going at 6:00 p.m. MT. Streaming options are available for a fee on AHLtv on Flo Hockey and multiple FlamesNation Contributors will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
