Notes and expectations

The Firebirds’ top scorer, Jagger Firkus, may not be available for this game. While a transaction had not been announced yet at the time this article was written, he was already off the roster on the AHL website. This is usually an early indicator that the player is headed for a call-up. The Seattle Kraken played on Saturday night and plays an afternoon game on Sunday at the same time as this Firebirds game.
For Calgary, although William Stromgren is listed as a day-to-day injury, it’s likely he’s out for this game as well. With a back-to-back and extra bodies, it doesn’t make sense to push it if Stromgren needs another game to recover. Matvei Gridin also suffered an injury in Saturday’s game when he caught a stick up high. He returned to the game, so he will likely be in for Sunday, wearing a bubble on his helmet. If not, they have Carter Wilkie as an option at forward or Simon Mack or Etienne Morin on the back end if they go with 11 forwards this game.
The biggest storyline with the Wranglers right now is Martin Frk. He is exploding on the offensive side of things and had another multi point night last night. He has 10 points in his last five games with three of those being multi-point nights. Yesterday, he was involved in all three goals, scoring the first one and assisting the other two. Since Dryden Hunt got the call up, he’s been elevated to that top line and it is paying its dividends for the Wranglers.
Frk will be a player to watch again in this game against the Firebirds and it gets going at 3:00 p.m. MT. You can stream it for a fee on Flo Hockey and FlamesNation contributors Ryan Pike and I will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
