The Calgary Wranglers are back in action after taking just under a week off during the AHL All-Star Classic. Rory Kerins, Devin Cooley and Brett Sutter went to this event and didn’t come back with division wins for the Pacific, but still contributed to a fun two days in Coachella Valley. Notes and expectations
There was new movement between the Flames and Wranglers this week with two new Wranglers making their way up to the big club. Ilya Solovyov and Dryden Hunt got called up and coming back down to the AHL is captain Clark Bishop. Adam Klapka remains up with the Flames and Rory Kerins remains with the Wranglers since being sent down prior to the AHL All-Star Classic.
Another move since their last game is the re-assignment of Trevor Janicke back to the Rapid City Rush. Now the Wranglers are still pretty lean for forwards so there may be some players who were out of games for maintenance that will be back this weekend—looking at Sam Honzek and Joni Jurmo. As for Jonathan Aspirot, it looks like he’ll remain in a forward position unless they go back to skating with seven defenders again.
The Silver Knights and Wranglers are already pretty familiar with each other at this point in the season. They’ve faced each other six times already and the Wranglers hold the advantage in the season series 4-2-0-0. Their other meetings were pretty consolidated to the start of the season and their last series in December resulted in a split. Calgary won 5-3 on December 20th and Henderson won 3-0.
This series starts on Friday night and will continue for a back-to-back match-up on Saturday night. Friday gets going at 8:00 p.m. MT and Saturday has a puck drop of 7:00 p.m. MT. Streaming options are available for a fee on AHLtv on Flo Hockey and multiple FlamesNation contributors will have updates on X (formerly Twitter).
