Two Canadian AHL teams take the ice on the Scotiabank Saddledome the next couple of nights and they are the Manitoba Moose and Calgary Wranglers. These cross-divisional teams still remain on opposite ends of their division standings and the Wranglers look to earn a couple of wins to continue their fight with the Hershey Bears for the top spot in the league. The Moose on the other hand, are just trying to work towards separating the gap between wins and losses which sits at a 0.342 win percentage.

Notes and expectations

Their last match-up was not too long ago just back on November 29th and December 1st. The Wranglers earned a sweep on the road with 3-2 and 6-1 decisions. Parker Bell had his best outing of the season against the Moose with two goals in their 6-1 win. Others who found the scoresheet on both games were William Stromgren, Rory Kerins, and Martin Frk.
Stromgren especially will be a player to watch this week as he is on a current five game point streak with seven points in the last five games. He has been promoted to the top line in the last few games with Jakob Pelletier up with the Flames. Stromgren has been on the starting lineup and scored the game-opening goals in both of their weekend games very early. One was just 17 seconds in and the other was just 3:01 into the game. We’ll see if he can help his team get off to a good start in these games as well.
Another player to keep an eye on who hasn’t been going crazy on the scoresheet but has been playing an exciting game is Sam Honzek. There’s no denying Honzek wants his chance back with the Flames and he’s doing all the right things to make that so. On a veteran line with Martin Frk and Clark Bishop, he’s been able to showcase his playmaking abilities and his hockey IQ. Honzek averages about a point every second game or so but his presence on the ice has especially been felt in the last couple of weeks.
Calgary looks to keep a perfect season series record against the Moose with this series starting on Tuesday night and continuing for a back-to-back on Wednesday night. Both games are at the Scotiabank Saddledome with a 7:00 p.m. MT puck drop.
