Face-offs

Flames pulled this one out and it’s good news from a utilitatrian perspective, but their performance given the quality of the opposition was pretty much abysmal. The only period they outchanced the Oilers – a glorified AHL squad – was the third and that was because they were chasing. Getting outchanced at ES by the Oil doesn’t speak well of the Flames chances going forward, because clubs like the Ducks and Blues are orders of magnitude better.

The third period come back was exciting and it’s great that the Flames are still in the race, but I’d feel a lot better about it had they actually outplayed the worst team in the league tonight.

  • Robert Cleave

The Flames were dead lucky tonight, full stop. Iggy getting outchanced 6-3 at EV by a squad full of AHLers doesn’t exactly fill me with hope for Wednesday versus the Ducks. Getzlaf, Perry and Selanne might be a bit tougher than the Paajarvi’s of the world.

    • Indeed. And if MacIntyre and Petry hadn’t taken 3 straight terrible penalties, the Flames don’t have a sniff anyways. The Hartikainen penalty in the third was a bit of gift too.

      We’ll take it, but yeesh.

  • Robert Cleave

A win is a win no matter how you look at it. They got till Wednesday to reflect and prepare for Anaheim which is a really good thing. Another must win game
