The Calgary Flames will be looking to avenge their loss to Colorado in the first round of last year’s playoffs when they open their season schedule against the Avalanche on Thursday as +115 road underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
After finishing atop the Western Conference standings with 107 points last season, Calgary was swiftly bounced from the postseason by the Avalanche in five games, and have now suffered losses in three of their past four road dates with Colorado.

That stunning ouster at the hands of the Avalanche marked the sixth time in seven playoff appearance that the Flames have been eliminated in the first round. That shaky playoff record has done little to buoy Calgary’s position on the Stanley Cup odds, where they start the campaign lagging well behind the favourites at a lengthy +2000.
Calgary also did little to inspire confidence in the preseason. The club posted wins in two of their first three outings, all on home ice, but struggled as the start of the season neared, scoring just nine total goals while falling to defeat in three of their final five September contests.
The Avalanche return to action amid high expectations after embarking on an impressive season-ending run before knocking off the favoured Flames in the first round last spring. Colorado now looks to the new season as strong +250 favourites at online betting sites to finish atop the Central Division, and sits just short of the favourites as a +1200 wager on the Stanley Cup odds.
Colorado was also spectacular on home ice in the final weeks of the 2018/19 regular season, posting wins in 12 of 15 games at Pepsi Center, and limiting opponents to two or fewer goals on nine occasions during that stretch.
The team has also dominated opponents from the Pacific Division since mid-January, picking up the win in 10 of 13 meetings, including their two playoff victories over the Flames in which they outscored Calgary by a wide 9-4 margin.
