Jarome Iginla never struggled to put up points during his 1200 games with the Calgary Flames as he jumped into the hearts of hockey fans everywhere.

He was never shy of being able to score goals putting up 12 30+ goal seasons over his 20-year career.

And on this day in 2002, Iginla scored two goals becoming the first and only 50-goal scorer of the 2001-02 season. The pair of tallies came in a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

For Iggy, though, it marked one of the best seasons of his career and one of two years he would score 50.

At 24-years-old, Iginla put up 52 goals and 96 points that 2001-02 season as he led the league in both goals and assists — one of the highest-scoring campaigns of his storied career. He brought home the Art Ross, Rocket Richard, and Ted Lindsay award that year, to boot.

He outscored his nearest competitor in the goals department, Bill Guerin, by 11 and notched six more points that Vancouver’s Markus Naslund.

It further launched him into the spotlight as one of the top players in the NHL’s top players. Iginla’s time in Calgary came to an end in 2012 when he was traded to the Boston Bruins.

Iginla scored 525 goals and 1095 points in 1219 games with Calgary, and totalled 1300 points in 1554 career games.
