Over a year after they were awarded a franchise, Seattle’s NHL expansion team finally has a name. The Seattle Kraken were unveiled at a media event at the Seattle Center Arena construction site on Thursday morning.
The logo and jersey are just great and add a nice splash of colour to the Pacific Division. The Kraken begin play in 2021-22, which will nudge Arizona to the Central Division.
Thus, for 2021-22 and beyond the division (and its colour palate) looks like this:
  • Anaheim Ducks – black, metallic gold, orange, silver
  • Calgary Flames – red, yellow, black, white
  • Edmonton Oilers – orange, navy blue, white
  • Los Angeles Kings – black, silver, white
  • San Jose Sharks – teal, burnt orange, black
  • Seattle Kraken – midnight blue, icy blue, red
  • Vancouver Canucks – blue, green, white
  • Vegas Golden Knights – steel grey, gold, silver, black
Lots of types of blue, obviously, but Seattle stands out by staying almost entirely within that colour family.
Seattle now has a name, logo and jerseys. They’ll get players following the 2020-21 season when the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft occurs.
