Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday!
This week in 1998 (Aug. 17), Calgary Flames assistant coach Steve Smith announced he was returning to the ice as a player.
Smith had stepped away from playing the year prior to join the Flames as an assistant coach, but his time was short-lived.
The itch to play remained and at 35, Smith returned playing 22:33 a night. He scored 15 points in 69 games that first year back.
In 1990-00, Smith missed most of the year due to a neck injury, and in December 2000, he officially retired. He only played 33 games between those years scoring six points.
