Some minor Calgary Flames prospect news occurred on Tuesday. Forward Dmitry Zavgorodniy is returning to North America as his loan agreement with the KHL’s SKA St. Petersburg has ended.

Zavgorodniy, 20, got his first taste of pro hockey with SKA during his tenure, playing six games and amassing three assists in that span. He missed a bit of time with a minor lower body injury, but for the most part he was a practice body for SKA.

SKA St. Petersburg had a lot of challenges due to COVID-19 positives early in their season, before Zavgorodniy’s arrival, and as a result the club was carrying a lot of forwards for his tenure there. Considering that his time with the club was always destined to be temporary, it appears that the coaching staff preferred to utilize the players signed long-term within the organization and so he was a scratch frequently. Despite his lack of playing time, though, getting regular practice time with a good pro team will likely do a world of good for him as he transitions into the pro ranks – probably in the AHL – later in the 2020-21 campaign.
