The Calgary Flames lost in overtime to Dallas on Thursday night, but one of their players will also be getting a bit of a hit to their wallet. Forward Matthew Tkachuk has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable by the CBA, for high-sticking Dallas defender John Klingberg in the third period.

Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for high-sticking Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg during NHL Game No. 154 in Calgary on Thursday, Nov. 4, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.The incident occurred at 7:40 of the third period. Tkachuk was assessed a minor penalty for high-sticking.The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Under the CBA’s supplemental discipline clauses, the Department of Player Safety can levy additional penalties (even if there was a call on the play) if they feel a player’s actions were particularly reckless or dangerous. Apparently, Tkachuk’s actions merited such an additional penalty.
