The 2022 NHL Draft is over, now the real work begins for the Flames

The Calgary Flames added three players to their reserve list on Friday as they made three selections at the 2022 NHL Draft.
Now, the Flames enter one of the more hectic – and important – stretches in years. Here’s what’s coming up!
Prospect development camp begins on Monday, with players arriving in town on Sunday and then beginning their scheduled program on Monday. Per Pat Steinberg’s chat a few days ago with Flames player development head Ray Edwards, don’t expect to see anybody who played with Stockton. The Heat ended their playoffs fairly recently and the club wants to give those players a bit of a break before ramping up again for training camp. (We’re expecting further details from the club imminently.)
Qualifying offers are due for pending restricted free agents by Monday at 3 p.m. MT.
The deadline for the Flames to sign pending unrestricted free agents to eight-year deals is Tuesday night at 9:59 p.m. MT. (We’re obviously referring to the futures of Nikita Zadorov, Trevor Lewis and Erik Gudbranson, and nobody else.)
Free agency opens at 10 a.m. MT on Wednesday. At that point, teams can sign UFAs (from any team), RFAs (from their own team) and RFAs can sign offer sheets with other teams or accept their qualifying offers.
Finally, the deadline for players to file for salary arbitration is 3 p.m. MT next Sunday (July 17). Once a player files for salary arbitration, they’re no longer eligible to sign an offer sheet with another team. (They do, however, still retain the ability to accept their qualifying offer before it expires on July 22 at 3 p.m. MT.)
