Every year, the FlamesNation writing team compiles our top 20 lists of Calgary Flames prospects. We aggregate our individual lists into our overall top 20 ranking. But a few prospects get votes on a few ballots, but fail to crack the top 20.

This year, three prospects appeared on one or more top 20 lists from our individual writers but missed the cut for the overall top 20.

A fifth-round pick in 2022, Bell had a breakout season in 2022-23 with the Western Hockey League’s Tri-City Americans. He’s big and raw, and the big question is whether what makes him so effective in the Dub – his ability to use his size and skill to get to the important areas around the net – can translate to the pro level. Depending on how his training camp goes, he could find himself playing in the AHL in the fall.

A seventh-round pick in 2023, Hurtig’s game (and role within Rögle’s junior club) expanded throughout the 2022-23 season. He underwent shoulder surgery after the men’s Under-18 World Championship and is expected to miss the beginning of the hockey season. It’s still not yet determined if he’ll be playing in Sweden this season, or joining the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen as an import.

A fourth-round pick in 2018, Pospisil has size, skill and a temperament of a wrecking ball on the ice. He’s also got awful injury luck. If he can put together a full, healthy AHL season, he could force his way onto the NHL roster.
