The National Hockey League’s annual entry draft is almost upon us, friends, and it’s a time to get excited about the future of your favourite NHL club! And, for those of us who are getting up there in years, it’s time to start feeling a bit old, as the draft commentators tout the youth of these NHL newcomers… and we realize that this year’s draft crop was born in 2007 and 2008.
Additionally, the draft offers a fun opportunity to discover the children and other relatives of former Calgary Flames players or draft choices that are up for selection in this year’s draft.
With stick-taps to our friends at NHL Stats for creating a big list of relations in this year’s draft, here are five 2026 NHL Draft prospects with Flames bloodlines.

D Charlie Morrison

A left shot defender from the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League’s Quebec Remparts, Morrison is 6’3″ ad 198 pounds… and the great-nephew of Dan Bouchard, one of the two goaltenders that was selected by the Atlanta Flames in the 1972 NHL Expansion Draft. Bouchard was the first regular starting netminder for the Flames, suiting up for nine seasons before being traded to the Quebec Nordiques midway through the first season in Calgary in exchange for Jamie Hislop.
Morrison had 13 points in 41 games with the Remparts this past season. He’s headed back to the Q for next season and has committed to the University Connecticut for 2027-28. He’s a projected third-rounder on several prominent public draft rankings.

LW Logan Stuart

A left shot forward, Stuart played his second season with the U.S. National Development Program in 2025-26, suiting up for their Under-18 Team after playing for their Under-17 Team in 2024-25. He’s listed at 5’11” and 174 pounds, and he’s the son of long-time NHLer (and former Flames defenceman) Brad Stuart. Stuart played 1,056 NHL games and won the Stanley Cup in 2008 with Detroit, but he’s probably most remembered by Flames fans for his 27 games in Calgary at the end of the 2006-07 season.
The younger Stuart had 30 points in 57 games with the USNDP. He’s headed to the Lethbridge Hurricanes next season. Draft rankings are a bit split on him; some have him as a third or fourth rounder, some are a bit cooler on him.

LW Sawyer Dingman

A left shot forward, Dingman suited up for the Swift Current Broncos in 2025-26. He’s listed at 6’4″ and 225 pounds, and he’s the son of 1994 first-rounder Chris Dingman, who spent the first 72 games of his NHL career with the Flames. After departing for Colorado as part of the Theo Fleury trade, Dingman ended up being part of Stanley Cup teams with the Avalanche (2001) and Tampa Bay Lightning (2004).
The younger Dingman had 27 points in 63 games with the Broncos this season, and he’s considered a bit of a long-shot to be drafted.

RW Joe Iginla

A right shot forward, Iginla split the 2025-26 season between the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings and Vancouver Giants. If his name sounds familiar, he’s the younger sibling of PWHL draft choice Jade (of PWHL Hamilton) and NHL draft choice Tij (of Utah), and the youngest child of Canadian hockey icon Jarome Iginla, who owns the Flames franchise record books, is a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, and is currently special advisor to Flames general manager Craig Conroy.
The younger Iginla had 31 points in 59 games this season and is considered a bit of a long-shot to be drafted.

D Elisei Ryabykin

Finally, Ryabykin is a left shot defender who played this season with MHK Dynamo Moskva in the MHL, the top level of Russian junior hockey. He’s the son of Dmitri Ryabykin, a second-round draft pick by the Flames in 1994. (Fun fact: they selected Ryabykin the round after they took Dingman!) Elisei’s dad never came over to North America, though.
The younger Ryabykin had 19 points in 48 games in the MHK last season. Like Stuart, public rankings are a bit split on him; some have him not being drafted at all, some have him in the third or fourth round.
Would you select any of these children (or great-nephews) of former Flames in the 2026 NHL Draft? Let us know in the comments!
