Calgary Flames: 3 — Rene Bourque, Jamie Lundmark
Vancouver Canucks: 2 — Mikael Samuelson, Daniel Sedin
  • S/O winner – Jamie Lundmark
After an atrocious outing against Columbus in which coach Brent Sutter was clearly pissed off, the Flames bounced back with a solid effort against the Canucks, taking 1st place home with them.
The Flames and Canucks finished off what was a playoff-type game with a non-playoff format – a shootout. Miikka Kiprusoff and Roberto Luongo were beat on all six shots taken, the difference being Kipper’s post saving the day on a Ryan Kesler shot. Jamie Lundmark scored the tying goal and the shootout winner after being recalled from Abbotsford yesterday, and looks to me as though he’s a guy that deserves to stick around. His offensive instincts seem to counter-balance any defensive shortcomings he may have, and right now this team needs all the offence they can get. Kiprusoff stopped 19 of 21 en route to his 23rd victory of the season and Jarome Iginla played with the emotion and tenacity we’ve all come to expect.
Anyone see the COWARD Canuck fan shining a laser in Kiprusoff’s eye from the stands. Karma’s a B!TCH, loser.

FIGHT CARD:

A truly beautiful night from Brandon Prust with two fights against Rick Rypien. The first of which he bloodied Rypien’s nose after getting popped with a good one early. The second of which seemed to light a fire under the Flames belly as they tied the game up just 4 seconds later.

UP NEXT:

The Colorado Avalanche will visit "The ‘Dome" Monday (01/11/10 @ 8:00 on Sportsnet West & FAN960). The surprising Av’s have been an absolute handful for the Flames this season and should provide a good test for the Flames as they try and find the consistency a 1st place hockey team needs.

RUSSIAN RUMBLE:

The crew at CBC shared this beaut’ with us tonight… a brawl filled game in the Russian KHL, including several ex-NHLer’s (such as Jaromir Jagr, Alexander Svitov, Anton Babchuk and more) racking up 637 PIM’s in total. Apparently there was another brawl there just over a week ago as well. Check out Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy for more video’s and details.

DANIEL RYDER, ARMED ROBBER?

I had intended on writing a little blurb on the former Flames prospect, but Jean Lefebvre wrote an excellent piece that you must check out here detailing the paths of two different Flames Newfoundlander’s (Ryder and Adam Pardy).
