The Calgary Flames have 13 players on contracts that expire as of Friday morning, which means they have 13 pending free agents of various types. Three are restricted free agents, while 10 are unrestricted free agents.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the free agents and what type they are.

Group 3 (unrestricted)

Seven players are 27 years of age (or older) and have met the years of service requirements to be completely unrestricted free agents.
  • Milan Lucic
  • Trevor Lewis
  • Nick Ritchie
  • Troy Stecher
  • Michael Stone
  • Dryden Hunt
  • Colton Poolman
Lucic has been heavily linked with Boston after the Flames reportedly gave him permission to speak with other teams.

Group 6 (unrestricted)

These three players would’ve been restricted free agents, but they played few enough NHL games to fall into Group 6 free agency instead.
  • Nicolas Meloche
  • Matthew Phillips
  • Kristians Rubins
Rubins has already signed a contract with MoDo Hockey.
Flames GM Craig Conroy confirmed on Thursday on the draft floor that the club has spoken to Phillips’ camp. Frank Seravalli reported on Friday that Phillips was expected to test the market but didn’t rule out a return.

Group 2 (restricted, received qualifying offer)

Finally, three players (a) qualified to be Group 2 restricted free agents and were qualified by the Flames.
  • Ben Jones
  • Emilio Pettersen
  • Martin Pospisil
