The final Calgary Flames properties have finally finished their seasons, as the Alaska Aces won the ECHL’s Kelly Cup last night via a 4-0 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones in Game 6 of their series.
The Flames have four players down in the ECHL: James Martin, John Ramage, Olivier Roy and Turner Elson.
Martin and Roy both missed the last chunk of the playoffs due to injury, but Elson and Ramage both performed well throughout the run. Elson had a great playoffs, eventually ending up on the Aces’ first line and racking up 11 points in 21 games (he had 5 points in the 6 final games). Ramage had 13 points in 20 games and was a fixture on the power-play. Martin was pointless in 11 games, while Roy was 6-1 (with an .896 save percentage) prior to getting injured.
Granted, it’s not the Stanley Cup or the Calder Cup, but the Alaska Aces had a tremendous season and capped off the year with a championship. Four Flames prospects got the chance to play into June. It’ll be very interesting to see if Elson and Ramage can continue that momentum into July’s development camp or into the fall. Both guys had fallen off the radar a little bit, but maybe they’ve raised their stock a bit with their play during the Aces’ playoff run.
All-in-all, not a bad way to begin the Alaska Aces’ development partnership with the Flames, eh?
