Watch: Flames score THREE powerplay goals

They did it. The absolute mad men, they did it.

It all seemed so hopeless. The 2017-18 Flames had one of the worst powerplays in the league, and with a 0-for-7 start to the season, that looked to be a trend to continue.

Then, in Game 2, the Flames got a powerplay. They gave up a shorthanded goal. Sure, Mark Giordano was able to nullify that with a goal of his own, but it came three seconds after the powerplay had ended: and so, the powerplay woes continued.

Then, the Flames got another powerplay. Matthew Tkachuk scored – only the call on the ice was overturned, because Canucks players were pushing Derek Ryan into Jacob Markstrom, and therefore, the goal couldn’t be counted.

But then. Then. Still on the same powerplay, with eight seconds to go. A Tkachuk pass, a Sean Monahan all alone in the slot, and a Johnny Gaudreau there to collect the rebound and finish it off.

They did it.

They scored a powerplay goal. They are now 1-for-9 on the 2018-19 season. Long may they reign.

Update: The Flames got another two powerplays, and did absolutely nothing with them, but then they got a third and scored again. This time, it was Gaudreau passing it to Monahan for the honours. Gotta love healed wrists.

The Flames are now 2-for-12 on powerplays in the 2018-19 season. It’s truly magical.

Update: Five minutes and one second after Monahan tied the game with a powerplay goal, the remaining member of the new-look top line, Elias Lindholm, capitalized on the Flames’ very next attempt to take the lead, the recipient of some very pretty passing from Tkachuk and Gaudreau.

The Flames are now 3-for-13 on powerplays in the 2018-19 season. Life is good. Life is so good.
