Two days after snapping a five game losing streak, the Calgary Flames (14-12-6, 34 points) hope for a repeat performance when they visit the San Jose Sharks (10-17-6, 26 points) for their second meeting in a 72 hour span. The Flames are hoping to get some traction in the Pacific Division standings, and hoping to do so at the expense of the Sharks.
The broadcast begins at 8:30 p.m. MT on Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960 The Fan!

The Flames

Projected lines courtesy Daily Faceoff:
Dube – Lindholm – Toffoli
Huberdeau – Kadri – Lucic
Mangiapane – Backlund – Coleman
Lucic – Lewis – Ritchie
Hanifin – Andersson
Weegar – Tanev
Zadorov – Stone
After the win on Sunday, we’re projecting another Jacob Markstrom start, backed up by Dan Vladar. Chris Tanev returns to the lineup! The projected extras are Nick DeSimone, Connor Mackey and Matthew Phillips.
As has become tradition, the Flames were the better five-on-five team on Sunday against the Sharks. In a bit of a departure from recent performances, the Flames were decisive and opportunistic offensively, scoring four times at five-on-five and finding ways to execute and bury their chances. From an offensive standpoint, that 60 minutes could become a template for the remainder of the campaign.

The Sharks

Projected lines courtesy Daily Faceoff:
Meier – Bonino – Labanc
Nieto – Couture – Barabanov
Gregor – Sturm – Svechnikov
Nieto – Lorentz – Gadjovich
Harrington – Karlsson
Vlasic – Benning
Ferraro – Simek
James Reimer is expected to start for the Sharks, backed up by Kaapo Kahkonen. This will be the first game of Tomas Hertl’s two-game suspension. C.J. Suess and Jaycob Megna are the projected extra skaters.
The Sharks were pretty handily out-played by the Flames on Sunday, with a pair of strong power play goals being the only things that kept the game reasonably close on the scoreboard. The Sharks are a pretty porous defensive team, and without Hertl their offensive attack should be a bit more challenged than they were on Sunday.

Unavailable players

The Flames are without Oliver Kylington, Chris Tanev and Dennis Gilbert.
The Sharks are without Nikolai Knyzhov, Markus Nutivaara and Luke Kunin.
