The Calgary Flames swept the season series from the Colorado Avalanche this past campaign, and will be looking to have similar success when the teams meet in a first-round playoff series starting this week. And Calgary enters the best-of-seven series as the favourite.
At sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com the Flames are favourites in the series at a line of -180 (wager $180 to win $100), and sit as -190 home favourites for Game 1 on Thursday night. Futures bettors can also find Calgary at +700 (wager $100 to win $700) on the updated odds to win the Stanley Cup, with Colorado a longer shot at +2500 on those betting lines.

Calgary edged Colorado 3-2 as +110 road underdogs on the NHL betting lines when the teams first met this past season on October 13, and then got past them again by a 6-5 score as -120 home favourites on November 1. The Flames then closed out the season series with the Avalanche on January 9 with a 5-3 victory as -180 home betting favourites. The OVER went 2-1 between the teams this past season, and has gone 6-3-1 in their past 10 meetings.
The Flames are coming off back-to-back 3-1 losses to the Ducks and Oilers in their final two games of the regular season, but went 6-4-0 in their last 10 games overall to lock up top spot in the Pacific Division standings and first place overall in the Western Conference. Calgary’s 107 points on the season was second only to the Lightning in the Presidents’ Trophy race.
Colorado, meanwhile, went 7-1-2 in its last 10 games to outpace the Coyotes for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, and set up this first-round date with Calgary. The Avalanche lost 5-2 at San Jose as +145 underdogs in their last game of the season Saturday.
This is the Flames’ first trip to the postseason since 2017, when they were swept in the first round by the Ducks. Calgary’s last playoff series win came in 2015, when they knocked out the Canucks in six games in the first round before losing to the Ducks in five games in the second round. That marked Calgary’s only playoff series win since their 2004 run to the final.
