Calgary Hitmen select two in CHL Import Draft

The annual Canadian Hockey League Import Draft was held Thursday morning with the Calgary Hitmen using two draft picks.

The team used the 37th overall selection on Czech forward Jonas Peterek and the 97th overall selection on Slovakian forward Samuel Krajc.

“Our goal heading into the draft was to add two forwards who have the ability to play the right side,” Hitmen GM Jeff Chynoweth said in a statement. “Both Jonas and Samuel have skated on the international stage and have the potential to provide scoring depth to our returning group of forwards.”

The pair join D Egor Zamula as imports on the club’s roster. League rules dictate only two are allowed to play this upcoming season and with Zamula slated to play on the team’s top pairing, the team would have to decide which of the two new imports they’d choose to play.

Peterek, a six-foot-two, 176 lb. right shot, played last season between Trinec in the Czech U19 league (two goals, seven assists in nine games) and Frydek-Mistek in the Czech2 league (two goals, nine assists in 41 games.).

He was a member of the Czech under-18 team, scoring one goal in five games.

Krajac, who stands at six-foot-two and 201 lbs, spent time between the Slovakia U18 and U20 teams.

With the HK Dukla Trencin U18 club, he scored eight goals and six assists in 14 game; with the same organization in the U20 league, he scored 11 goals and nine assists in 27 games.

All three imports are expected to be in attendance when Calgary opens their training camp in late August.
