The Calgary Flames have added a women’s hockey icon to their player development staff. The club announced on Tuesday morning that three-time Olympic gold medalist Rebecca Johnston has been hired into a full-time role on their player development group.
Johnston, 32, joins Ray Edwards and Martin Gelinas in player development. She has played extensively in high-end hockey, with stints at Cornell (NCAA), the Calgary Inferno (CWHL), and the Calgary node of the PWHPA. She’s represented Canada extensively as well, with three Olympic golds, one Olympic silver, two World Championship golds and seven World Championship silvers.
She previously worked with the Flames at their development camp this past July, and based on this announcement we can probably assume that stint went well for both sides.
