Notes

It’s the fourth Penticton tournament for Mason McDonald and Hunter Smith. It’s the third such tournament for Rasmus Andersson, Nick Schneider and Andrew Mangiapane – though Schneider hasn’t played a single second of a single game in his prior trips. And welcome back Tyler Parsons, Dillon Dube, Mark Jankowski, Matthew Phillips and Brett Pollock, who are all in their second Young Stars Classic after making their debuts last year.
Mathieu Sevigny, who appeared for the Flames at last year’s camp, is suiting up for Winnipeg.

The Try-Outs

Returning from development camp are six players: defenseman Sam Ruopp and forwards Sam Dove-McFalls, Glenn Gawdin, Ben Hawerchuk, Brad Morrison and Mark Rassell. Everybody but Ruopp is in their 20-year-old season, so Ruopp is definitely looking for work while the other gentlemen could make their junior teams as overagers or find pro work elsewhere.
And welcome Spokane Chiefs captain Tyson Helgesen, younger brother of former Calgary Hitmen forward Kenton, and Michigan Tech captain (and graduate) Cliff Watson, who was drafted by San Jose in 2012 but not signed.

Schedule

The fledgling Flames have three games over the course of the weekend:
  • Friday at 5 p.m. MT: vs. Edmonton
  • Sunday at 3 p.m. MT: vs. Vancouver
  • Monday at 11:30 a.m. MT: vs. Winnipeg
All three games will be (a) streamed by the Flames site and (b) broadcast on Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
