The Calgary Flames made a couple of moves involving the Stockton Heat this morning ahead of a six-game road swing, demoting Andrew Mangiapane and calling up Marek Hrivik.
Hrivik becomes waiver eligible after 12 more days on the roster, and would need to clear in order to return to the Heat after that. Not that he’d be a hot commodity on the waiver wire – he’s already cleared once this season – but it’s probably an indication he’s here for an extended period of time. Swapping Mangiapane with Hrivik could also just be a case of the team wanting to carry an extra centre for the extent of the road trip.
Mangiapane’s minutes were severely reduced against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday following a couple healthy scratches, and the demotion is likely in order to get him more minutes in the AHL and continue what has been a mostly successful developmental season. He’s recorded zero points in nine games with the Flames this season, while Hrivik has the same stat line through three games.
The Flames kickoff the aforementioned six-game, 10-day road trip tomorrow night at the United Centre in Chicago.
