The Calgary Flames have made their final roster moves in preparation for Tuesday’s roster filing deadline with the league office. They’ve officially released Andrew MacDonald from his professional try-out, and assigned Dillon Dube, Zac Rinaldo and Alan Quine to the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat.
With these moves, the Flames have their roster down to 22 active bodies (and Juuso Valimaki). Here’s how their opening day roster shakes down:
Goalies#33 David Rittich
#39 Cam Talbot
Defense#4 Rasmus Andersson
#5 Mark Giordano (C)
#7 TJ Brodie
#24 Travis Hamonic
#26 Michael Stone
#55 Noah Hanifin
#58 Oliver Kylington
Forwards#10 Derek Ryan
#11 Mikael Backlund (A)
#13 Johnny Gaudreau
#16 Tobias Rieder
#17 Milan Lucic
#19 Matthew Tkachuk (A)
#23 Sean Monahan (A)
#27 Austin Czarnik
#28 Elias Lindholm
#67 Michael Frolik
#77 Mark Jankowski
#88 Andrew Mangiapane
#93 Sam Bennett
Injured#8 Juuso Valimaki
Per our calculations, this roster leaves the Flames with roughly $154,958 in regular cap space.
For the curious, this roster has 16 carry-overs from last season’s opening roster (17 if you count Valimaki). This year’s edition swaps out Dillon Dube, Garnet Hathaway, Curtis Lazar, James Neal, Dalton Prout and Mike Smith in favour of Cam Talbot, Rasmus Andersson, Oliver Kylington, Andrew Mangiapane, Milan Lucic and Tobias Rieder. Aside from no Dube, it feels like an upgrade.
