Flames Prospect Playoff Overview

 

 

While the big boys aren’t going to be skating this spring, the Flames organization nevertheless has a few guys still playing meaningful hockey. Because they are scattered through various leagues, I decided to put together this guide to help find and track the kids as they move along.

– Max Reinhart and Joey Leach are both finished for the season. Leach was named the MVP of the Ice’s brief playoff appearance.

– Sven Baertschi was recently named WHL player of the week after scroing six points in the first two games against the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL’s second round. He now has a mind-boggling 17 points in just six games played. Teammate Tyler Wotherspoon has three points and is a +9.

– Michael Ferland and the Brandon Wheat Kings are facing the Edmonton Oil Kings in the second round. Ferland has three goals and five points in seven games thus far.

– Speaking of the Oil Kings, goalie prospect Laurent Brossoit has a .928 SV% through six appearances so far. He was the OK’s starter this season and finished with 42 wins in 61 starts.

– John Gaudreau and Bill Arnold won the Frozen Four with Boston College this year. The team turned out to be a juggernaut, finishing the season on a 19-game winning streak. Gaudreau was second in team scoring behind first rounder Chris Kreider with 45 points in 45 games. He also scored a pivotal goal in the final win of the season:

– The Abbotsford Heat placed second in the AHL’s West division despite significant roster turn-over this season. Final match-ups haven’t been set for the post-season yet, but we’ll have a complete update on the Heat’s season and their playoff hopes within a week or so.

Guys to watch on the farm include Roman Horak, Brian Connelly, Paul Byron, Clay Wilson, Greg Nemisz, Leland Irving and the newly signed UFA college players Brady Lamb and David Eddy. Max Reinhart was called up to the Heat after his junior season ended and may get some reps in as well.

– Markus Granlund has zero points in three post-season games so far for HIFK. The best place to follow prospects playing in Europe is typically this site.
